If you’re a super committed vegan, then knowing how the cannabis is grown is important. Growing cannabis typically falls into two categories – indoor and outdoor cultivation. Fertilizers that contain animal products, such as chicken and pig blood, bone meal, worms, and various types of manure, are more commonly used for outdoor cultivation. And if you’re vegan, that’s the last thing you want to hear!
The most important part of growing cannabis is giving it the right nutrients it needs to thrive. Luckily, there are a wide range of feeding systems available that do not require animal derived nutrients. It’s all about finding the right balance between nutrients and microbes in the soil – if the cannabis plant lacks either one, then it may not grow healthily.
Compost teas are a great vegan friendly substitute for animal-based fertilizers. It’s made by soaking compost in aerated water, and it produces rich fertilizer full of microbes – the perfect environment for a healthy cannabis plant.
Does vegan cannabis taste different?
Although there is no proven answer, some cannabis users report that vegan weed tastes better than non-veganic weed. If you smoke cannabis, you may find that the terpenes in vegan weed taste better and the smoke is smoother. But, if you’re consuming cannabinoid-infused edibles, then you are unlikely to notice any difference at all. You’ll just have a clear conscience, instead!
